Back on Track, Frye Dominates Rome Run
by Tim Lee
ROME, GA (July 16-17) - Bill Frye knew that his first win of the season was
just around the corner. He'd been sure off it for a few weeks, as better
finishes and strong qualifying runs had become a pattern during his hectic
midsummer schedule.
The Greenbrier, Ark., driver's hunch became reality at Rome International
Speedway, where Frye dominated the Hav-A-Tampa-sanctioned Georgia Tool &
Equipment Rental 100. A late race high-line charge from Dan Schlieper was
the sole threat to Frye's run, in which he started from the pole and led all
100 circuits to claim his frist win of the season. The $15,300 victory was
Frye's first with the Georgia-based touring circuit since his $12,000 win at
LaSalle (Ill.)
